How long were the Crusades?

 Most people think that there were only 4 Crusades. Actually there were 9 and a children's Crusades. The first four are the main Crusades and the others are called minor Crusades. The first Crusade took place from 1096 - 1099. This Crusade was called the People's Crusade. This Crusade was the first attempt at freeing the Holy land and was led by preachers such as Peter the Hermit. The second Crusade was from 1144 - 1155. This was an attack on Damascus led by Emperor Conrad III and King Louis the VII. The third Crusade was from 1187 - 1192. This was a Crusade led by leaders in France, England. The fourth Crusade was from 1202 - 1204. This was led by Fulk of Neuil from France. The Children's Crusade was in 1212 and it was not very successful in fact most children died. The fifth to the ninth Crusades took place from 1217 - 1272. All these Crusades were not prosperous and many people died.
